A friend sent me this picture from last week’s Sally’s Run 5K and I just had to share . . .
in case anyone was wondering what my suffer face looks like. Yep, that’s it. I reported on the pain and suffering involved in my 5K PR here, in case you missed it. What is probably somewhat sick is that I am really excited that Coach is requesting a lot of 5 and 10K action over the next couple months, which means I have more of this in my future.
And because I do best when I go into a race well-acquainted with the feeling to which I am about to subject myself (thus effectively turning the race into “just another workout” in my mind), I did some suffer-face/ dying-animal noise practice on the track yesterday with Sam. It’s not that the track workout itself was all that crazy, but I have been sick for a few days now, and between both a nose and lungs full of junk, air was not readily available, to say the least. Ouch but we got it done.
I am hoping my health decides to return in time for my wedding next week! On that note, I think it is bedtime here after two brief items of business.
1) Reader Ben brought up a fantastic question in response to yesterday’s “Win My Kit” contest, and the answer is . . . you are entering to win a new cycling kit, thank you.
2) Slowtwitch did an awesome interview with my coach Joel Filliol this week. It is definitely worth a read!

The face looks familiar, but I don’t think in a run picture you’ve been this far off the ground before! This is not Ironman-”shuffling”.
Dear Hillary,
Take care of you during the holiday season and have a very nice Christmas !
Yep, a 5k is very different than a 1/2 marathon or an ironman’s marathon. It’s a speed race and i know that you’re suffer on this race : the pace is not the same and, it’s the end of the year !
Get better..please post wedding pics..lots of em!!!
OMG- getting married next week!!!!! Yea!!!!!!!!!!! Whenever a friend gets married, we all like to quote Sixteen Candles… (Mallied? Yes, Mallied!)
Tell Maik…happy wife= happy life. Hee hee!!!!!
sorry Hills but that’s my face when I run….all the time
take care of that cold/snoty stuff with plenty of warm soup
Question: How do you recommend keeping your spirits up during recovery from injury or illness?
I love the suffer face! In fact, I’m hopeful my coach puts some into my January plans
