Friday morning of wedding weekend, we had a smashfest on tap that I’d been looking forward to for a long time: 100x100s wedding swim! But of course Coach also had a 75-minute run on the training plan, so Mere, Linsey, and Belinda joined for one of my favorite neighborhood runs: an out-and-back along a dirt running trail with some lovely ocean views mixed in there. Mere and Lins made us suffer, so thankfully the girls had built in a few minutes of break time before the swim….
Little did I know that it was a gift-giving break because they had full-on Oscars-style swag bags collected for our wedding weekend.
All the girls had contributed items for our “bridesmaid” bags, and Mere made me up a special box of bride’s necessities for the big day: double-stick tape, rolaids, deodorant, lip gloss, etc . . . The girl thinks of everything—so thoughtful.
Our custom-made matching swimsuits were definitely the highlight.
I had the special silver bride’s edition, and the girls had these . . .
Tara had the special maternity version—how freakin’ cute is she?!?
She is also MY HERO as she was determined to do her longest swim ever right then and there, with us, meaning the full 100×100. At 29 weeks pregnant. Yeah she did not acquire her ironman resume by accident.
Everyone joined in for the fun in the resort pool and these were the chicks left standing at the end of 100 repeats! For Mini Bisc this meant 100×50, which was almost 2000 yards longer than her previous longest swim; I was so proud! And everyone got bonus points for this workout given that we were swimming in this gutter-less, 3-lane pool with zig-zag black lines underneath us—for full ocean/ seasickness effect.
This was our workout, with intervals a bit slower than normal for the slow pool:
100×100 Wedding Swim, Part One!
10×100 easy warm up @ :05 rest
20×100 swim as 4x (2 @ 1:25+3 @1:20)
20×100 swim @ 1:20 ; 10 as 25ez-25fast ; 10 as descend 1-5
20×100 buoy-band as 4x (4@1:20+1@1:30)
24×100 paddles, buoy & band as 6x (3@1:15+1@1:30)
6×100 easy as 25fr-25bk-50kick
And the whole crew at the finish . . . Dr. Muffin and GCM did the full 10,000 with us, and Juzzie G jumped in for the last part of the session after running 2.5 hours!
THAT’S LOVE!
The crew who opted for half the workout got to chill out by the fire pit on deck afterwards . . .
Our post-swim reward was a bridesmaids’ luncheon given by mom’s dear friend, Roxanne. We all wore our matching hot pink TYR sweats from our goodie bags; I always thought of TYR as a swimsuit company, but it turns out they are making really cute sweats these days!
Roxanne went all-out and served a full-on gluten-free, vegan lunch—amazing!
Then of course Ms. Mere had shower games on tap: “Guess whose underwear?” and “Guess Maiki’s answer (think Newlywed Game for this one).”
Each girl got me a new piece of underwear, and I had to guess who each was from. Or make them into hats. Okay I made that part up just for fun. One highlight was a hot pink little sleeping tank top from Dede G which read, “Shut the F#&% Up and Train.” Where does one even find such things?! Coolest “lingerie” ever!
Needless to say, there were many laughs involved, although we missed Dede heaps. Poor thing got stranded in Boston—darn American Airlines!
Missy Moo enjoyed the festivities as well!
Gluten-free – vegan cupcakes, oh my!!
I was so spoiled! Love my girls!

Happy New Year Mrs. T!!
I am so happy that you made your wedding your own, it sounds like it was a remarkable weekend!! Also, I was pleased to read that you thought the Spa pool at Terranea was a little funky, because I swam there on Christmas Eve and was a little surprised by how much it felt like an open water swim, but good times nonetheless.
Cheers,
Taryn
