Winter Training Weekend

by hillarybiscay

We are having an epic weekend for training here in the desert—it could not be more beautiful for this time of year! Showing visitors our favorite cycling routes always reminds me how lucky we are to live and train here because it forces me to step back and take in the scenery with new eyes for a couple of days. I love that.

Yesterday we took Kari on one of our favorite loops through Saguaro Park West and over Picture Rocks, with a couple of bonus climbs up Sweetwater and Gates Pass just to make sure she got to see as many of the west-side highlights as possible! Okay and I might have needed to fit in some big-gear hill repeats . . .

Then today we hit up Mt. Lemmon and I could not believe how perfect and sunny the conditions were for the first weekend in February! I hadn’t been there since I nearly froze up there in November and am now ready to hit it every week again since today’s ride was so awesome. Post-ride I introduced Kari to Le Buzz and its salads and treats, and then tonight we (wellll actually I mean the GCM—I was on salad duty) whipped up some home-made gluten-free pizzas.

The barbecue tofu with Daiya cheese and veggies is one of our staples around here.

Kari goes home to Madison tomorrow and I am already counting the days ‘til my visit this fall!

In the meantime, for anyone else looking to escape the cold and experience some of Tucson’s most epic training rides, runs, and swims, we do still have a few spaces available for our March training camp weekend here in Tucson. Check out the details here.
