More Waffle Talk . . .

by hillarybiscay

Brief training update: after yesterday’s smashfest, today all roads led to struggle street. It was a character-building kind of training day, with three solid hours spent in the fetal position following my third session of the day. If you think this is an exaggeration, ask the Cat, who witness this and was like, “What the . . ?!?”

Soooo now that I have recovered slightly and moved into a seated position, let’s talk waffles! I received a number of great suggestions via the blog, twitter, and facebook in response to my post the other day in search of a gluten-free and vegan waffle mix. Some were “pancake” mixes, and I am never quite sure when those can double for waffles as well, so I was pleased to get your feedback on this stuff.

Here are some reader recommendations with links to info:

And while we are on the topic of food, did anyone read the articles this week about McDonalds and pink goo?? I think this is reason #1027 to skip both fast food and meat—check out this article. What do you think??

Oh! We have Bob’s Red Mill products here. Must check it out.
How funny that it has taken Jamie Oliver (a well known british chef) to put pressure on a major american food chain to drop some rubbish ingredients off their products….

Glad to hear you made it out of fetal position! I plan to be pretty spent this weekend, Coach has a heck of a weekend planned. EEEK!

I have had the Bob’s and it’s really good, quite fluffy for GF -
I just love waffles :)

I do have a Vega question for you:
I got a GC to try some Vega-if you could only try ONE , would you recommend the Pre-Workout Energizer or Health Optimizer to try first?
Have you ever added the Health Opt. to your waffles? I read somewhere you can add it to stuff like that.

I am picking up the Shake-n-Go smoothies too-which is your fav flavor? The Tropical Tango sounds great but so do the Vanilla/Almond and berry.

Thanks!!
Happy Training and Eating

hi jen! definitely try the whole food health optimizer first. and as for the shake-n-go, i love them all–the flavors are just great. but if i had to live with only one, i would go with tropical tango because i almost always want to mix fruit into my shakes and i find that flavor goes best with an assortment of berries, bananas, etc. omg i have never mixed vega into waffles–sounds like a brilliant idea though…please let me know if you try this or find a recipe!

Can you find any of these in local stores? or Do you order all of your GF products online? I don’t have a Whole Foods near me :( [but one is opening this summer, yeah!]
I’m not a vegan or vegetarian, but I have not had fast food in a long time. I thought that articles and the Video of Chef Jamie was very enlightening.

hey craig! yes, between our whole foods and our local natural foods shops, most of these are in my local stores. GCM and i shop primarily at our independently-owned natural foods shops vs. “whole paycheck” whenver possible :) . i do, however, order some gluten-free mixes online.

I wouldn’t be too concerned over using pancake mix for waffles…what I would adjust is the liquid and oil component…and possibly flavoring (vanilla, honey etc)…certainly could turn into a tasty experiment!
