Mr. Woodling Special!

by hillarybiscay

Look what I got!!!!

workout book

Those of you who have been reading here for awhile have heard lots about my old swim coach Mr. Woodling, one of the formative influences in my athletic career. And you may remember that he sent me a stack of his immaculately-kept swim set archives awhile back . . .Well that thing above is a whole big binder of months of swim workouts from the legend himself! Mr. Woodling said I am free to do with them as I please, so I may share a set or workout with you here every so often. And my athletes can prepare themselves for some new swimming fun!

Many of them can expect to be seeing this 14x200s set coming to a program near them soon. Smile And I thought this was a nice triathlon-ish workout for anyone to try . . . How awesome was Mr. Woodling: for the non-clock-reading folk, he actually had our “go” times mathematically worked out for us and listed there . . .

Obviously the main set intervals here can be adjusted as needed, but what you are aiming for is the shortest possible sendoff you can make (You only have to do one at a time!) for the “1s” – we are talking :00-:01 sec rest, preferably! Then add :30 to that for your 4-3-2-1 recovery 200s. Make sense?!

Happy swimming!

positively joyous. I love it. I want to read the whole binder right now. happy dancing is happening in my house.
I cannot believe that he gave you his binder…my old swim coach holds those black books of practices close to his heart. that’s like the ultimate respect for a swim coach to hand over those!

Respect to Mr. Woodling for typing and cataloguing all of his workouts.
That’s a book waiting to be published I’m sure! with sections for specific strokes, distances, etc
