2015: On a Roll!

by hillarybiscay

I am resolved to get this blog up to date here so today I bring you 2015 thus far in a nutshell!

The biggest thing about January was truly one of my most proud days in coaching thus far. Nobody won a race or broke any world records but they may as well have. Two of my new pros, Leslie Miller and Alyssa Godesky, took on a winter marathon project. Neither one of them had run an open marathon since we’d started working together and both knew that they could benefit from some time cultivating their run “speed.” So both dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to pounding out some of the toughest run workouts they had ever done over the “off-season.”

The Phoenix Rock N Roll Marathon was their day of reckoning.

What was so incredible to witness in person was these two women who had never imagined that they could run this fast ending up with a time that they had always thought was reserved for “real runners”—and for me, knowing all of the work that went into this. It was a coach-pinching-herself kind of day. So grateful to work with women like this.

The other big thing that happened in January was that I had the honor of being selected for a 12-woman advisory board by the World Triathlon Corporation called Women For Tri. You can read the press release here and my interview about what this position means to me here.

Last week we had our first board meeting at the WTC headquarters in Florida and I was blown away/ completely inspired by the high-achieving, intelligent group of women that I have the privilege of working with. The work is just starting but I think we are going to be able to make things happen in terms of growing women’s participation in our great sport. My friend Julia P, the editor of Triathlete Magazine, wrote a great recap of our board kickoff happenings last week here.

And now we have lots of excitement coming up:

Hillary! Everything you touch turns to gold, and that’s because of your extremely hard work and talent as an athlete AND a businesswoman! Thank you for all you do for our sport!!

I agree with Sue and yes your success is well deserved.
I’m loving all the updates on your athletes on FB and Twitter.
By the way, I see Alyssa is on the start line of IM South Africa, if I see her I’ll definitely say hello to her.
At least you’ll have 2 ladies flying the flag for Smashfest that day.
