Because our professional ironwomen deserve a fighting chance to make careers in this sport. What I am excited to share today is that I am fortunate to have a business partner and SMASH Team who are as passionate about this cause as we are. So this happened:
These black 5Q #50WOMENTOKONA tanks & tees make a bold neon pink statement in support of equality for female athletes. We made these tees because we feel strongly that women should have equal representation at world championship races, and want people to have the chance to show their support for this cause.
We believe that having these 50 spots, like the male pros do, is a crucial part of creating equal opportunity for women in our sport, and for professional women to make a career in triathlon. To further this goal, SMASH will contribute all profits from the sale of these tees to a Kona-travel fund for the woman in the final Kona-qualifying spot this year. We hope that this final spot is #50, not #35, but either way, a travel fund will be there to help make it possible for this woman to get to the starting line of the big dance in October. SMASH pro Haley Chura was this final spot in 2013, went on to be first woman out of the water in Kona that year, then win her first Ironman in 2014. We want to help the next Haley Chura on her way!
