Ian is here! It is so much fun to have so many of our favorite friends in town for this event . . . Matty Lieto is even on his way to do some commentating for ironmanlive! And my parents arrive this afternoon. I haven’t seen them since May–can’t wait.
So last night Ian and I hit the lake for a little swim. It was beautiful! I am still not sure whether it will be a wetsuit-legal swim, so thank goodness TYR has come up with a new suit that meets the new non-wetsuit/ swimskin rules: the Torque. Last night’s was my first swim in it and it was awesome–so comfortable, yet noticeably more buoyant than wearing a regular swimsuit. Its material feels like the old-school papersuits… Read More
7 September 10: It happens to all of us . . .

A couple of days ago I was having a chat with a young friend who raced at Ironman Louisville last week, and I wanted to share a little bit about our chat because I have a handful of friends who, like him and me, had disappointing races that weekend. However, most of these friends are not professional triathletes and thus don’t have the luxury of jumping into another ironman in two weeks’ time. They have been training for months—maybe even a full year—“for this race,” be it Ironman Canada or Ironman Louisville. So, understandably, when their best-laid ironman plans go awry, it is difficult not to be very disappointed. Bummed. Depressed, even.
My friend was one of these people. He is a college student who had invested all of his… Read More
6 Sept 10: My Favorite Bike Course . . .
Posted on 06. Sep, 2010 by hillarybiscay in Blog | 6 Comments
The past few days have been full of very happy, long-awaited reunions: with my Madison family–my super homestay Kari Myrland, my BFF Amanda (who is also racing next weekend), and my favorite bike course!! Lots of reasons for the smile above! This is my fifth consecutive year racing here in Madison and my fifth year making myself right at home with Kari, who so generously continues to play host to me–and now the GCM too. I feel so fortunate that I stumbled into such an awesome homestay four years ago, as it has turned into one of my most valued friendships.
On Saturday the GCM and I hit the ironman bike course and it did not disappoint. It was blowing a gale out there, but the… Read More
3 Sept 10: Zipp Visit!

The GCM and I made a stop just outside Indianapolis, Indiana on our midwestern road trip. Besides being able to visit and catch up with one of my childhood friends and her family–which was awesome–we finally got to visit the Zipp World Headquarters. This is not just a corporate office but the Zipp factory as well. We are both lucky enough to be sponsored by Zipp and were pretty pumped to see where our wheels come from!
David Ripley (a.k.a. Rip) from Zipp gave us the lowdown on Zipp’s history . . . Check out the many versions of race wheels and the old-school Zipp bike . . . Rumor has it that a well-known pro may soon be bringing one of these back into action… Read More
1 Sept 10: Rough Day at the Office
Posted on 01. Sep, 2010 by hillarybiscay in Blog | 15 Comments
You know my rule about “If you don’t have anything nice to say . . . ” so I will keep my Ironman Louisville race report very brief. Quite simply, it was just one of those days. I just didn’t have it–from swim, to bike, to run . . . Each time, I kept my mind open and optimistic that I might find “it” during the next discipline, but that never happened.
Saturday check-in with the 2008 Champ, Max Longree, and my new Oakleys!
I know it’s a rough day at the office when:
By mile ten of the 112-mile ride, all I can think of is, how much longer til I can get off my bike and run a marathon, please?!?!? A hundred miles by bike is… Read More
