Tri For The Cure Arizona

While many of my races, like next weekend’s Ironman Malaysia, are the result of game-time decisions, I wanted to let you know that I have a couple exciting events on the calendar for my return to the States in April. Because I can’t miss my home ironman, on April 13, I will be racing the first of two Ironman Arizonas for this year.
The following weekend I will be back to the Scottsdale area for the second-annual Tri For The Cure Arizona Triathlon. It is an all-women’s sprint triathlon raising money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation to benefit breast cancer research. This morning I faced the task of my most challenging track session in months while missing a few critical items: my boy, my shoes, my ipod, and my directions. It was an inauspicious start.
I woke up this morning to the depressing realization that, after a few days together, my boy was on a plane back to the States, and I would not be able to share the day’s happenings with him. So instead I subject my lucky readers to them here! Anyways, I reminded myself that there was no time to get bogged down by this sadness, as I had a big session to accomplish this morning. 1 February 08: Back to real training!

I am happy to report that my body seems to be getting back to full strength, and that I’ve been able to use Challenge Wanaka as a stepping stone back to fitness. Last weekend, I engaged in one of my favorite training activities: the credit-card bike trip. This means taking my credit card and doing an overnight journey by bike. I managed to get in nearly 400 kilometers and even a little swimming in running over two days. It was so much fun, and I especially appreciated the fact that I felt fine to do this the weekend after an iron-distance race.
