I just wanted to check in quickly and let you know about some fun new challenges that I’ve decided to undertake this summer. Training in Switzerland continues to go really well. Today is one of those days when I “can hardly get out of my own road,” as my coach would say; in other words, I am pretty much dysfunctional, and my legs have gone on strike. It made for an exceptionally painful day, but I know that this is all part of the game and that if I don’t have these days every once in awhile, I’m not pushing the limits in my training . . . 16 June 08: Birthday Weekend in Leysin

Last Friday, I celebrated the dreaded 3-0 . . . Thanks to my coach and teammates, however, I was able to give it to myself to the extent that I didn’t have time or energy to be sad about no longer being a twenty-something. In fact, our two days of celebrations here in Leysin were so much fun that I might go so far as to deem my thirtieth my “best birthday ever.”

4 June 08: Ironman Brasil

Last week I had the privilege of returning for the third time to one of my favorite races: Ironman Brasil in Florianopolis (a.k.a. “Floripa”). Brasil was my fourth ironman of 2008, and as always, it provided me with some valuable experience, and plenty of fun along the way.

One of the most important things that I’ve learned in ironman racing is to expect the unexpected, and be prepared to deal with it.
