31 May 10: Taking Care of Business
Posted on 31. May, 2010 by hillarybiscay in Blog | 17 Comments
The Ironman Lanzarote-Brasil double is now complete. Yesterday was a super fun day and my body cooperated enough to enable me to take care of business, or get that darn kona-qualifying slot!! This meant I had to finish in the top 4 (The first two girls already had their slots based on their top 10 overall finishes in Kona last year) and within 5% of the winning time; I knew that bit would be no small task given that our field included the #4 and #9 women in the world. So while I reallllly wanted a podium finish, I am pleased to have this done and to have ridden my bike more like the way I´ve been doing in training. The swim and the run were another story, but that´s… Read More
28 May 10: I heart Floripa.

Have I mentioned that I love this place?!?! I cannot believe that I even missed a year of Floripa fun last year. This is the tenth year of Ironman Brasil and my fourth visit; having the whole fam here makes it ten times more fun, too! There’s been no end of coffee/ breakfast/ dinner chats with the kids (above is Amanda and I at breakfast–yes that blue bit is the ocean in the background!), and last night we got to meet some really interesting new friends at the Ironman XC Executive Challenge dinner, too. Tonight we are having our own little carbo-loading party at one of the local all-you-can-eat pizza buffets. These places are one of my favorite Brasilian things–fresh pizza of every type, including dessert pizzas. Amazing. I will have to take some pics.
Yesterday the GCM and I swam… Read More
26 May 10: Lanzarote to Floripa!

We have now said goodbye to Lanzarote and are onto the next ironman project: Brasil, this Sunday! I took three days in Lanzarote to do a bunch of easy training sessions and eat and sleep a lot before subjecting myself to the long haul flight to get here. The plan seems to have worked a treat, though, because my body is feeling pretty fresh already, and I had the added bonus of sleeping through the night on last night’s plane flight. With any luck, we will get on the Florianopolis time/sleep schedule straightaway and have snuck through this trip without incident.
It feels awesome to be in Florianopolis (Floripa) again! The GCM (ironman support crew this week . . . You should have seen him walking through various airports with his… Read More
23 May 2010: Ironman Lanzarote

I have already titled a blog “GCM indeed,” haven`t I? Otherwise that would have been the best description of yesterday´s highlights. The GCM finished third in a stacked men´s field, but more impressively, smashed the Ironman Lanzarote bike course record, which was set by one of the original GCMs, Thomas Hellriegel, in his prime. MY GCM´s 4:40 bike split had him off the bike over 10 minutes ahead of guys who are pretty good cyclists in their own right. Eneko Llanos had to do an overall course record to beat him! It was awesome. He has made quite a name for himself around here in just his first outing in Lanzarote. Suddenly I can`t take him anywhere because everyone wants to stop for a chat with the German Cycling Machine… Read More
20 May 2010: MindBodyGreen Interview
Posted on 20. May, 2010 by hillarybiscay in Blog | 4 Comments
Well it is nearly bedtime on Thursday night here in Lanzarote, which means that I´ve almost survived my day without training. The GCM has managed to put up with me as well, and soon enough I will be hitting the treadmill. I will appreciate that little treadmill jog tomorrow morning even more than usual. It won´t be enough to burn off tonight´s carbo-loading extravaganza, but I suppose that´s the point of carbo-loading . . . Gotta store it all up for Saturday´s smashfest. Can´t wait for that one!
In the meantime, I wanted to share with you an interview that was posted on one of my fave websites today, www.mindbodygreen.com. They also did an interview earlier this week with Chris McDougall, the author of Born to Run… Read More
