Pre-race with Coeur d´Alene super ironman support crew-adopted mom-cheerleader for the pros, Sue Hutter. We love you, Sue!!
I am back in Kona and barely functioning at the moment but wanted to post a quick update since I have received so many messages to which I have not had a chance to respond. Pre-race I only just had time to get ready for the event, so I had lots of catching up with friends to cram into the day afterwards; so at the moment I have had five hours sleep total in the two nights since the race and can hardly string a sentence together.
I just wanted to let everyone know that while Sunday was a long, painful and not-so-pretty day at the office, I am fine.… Read More

I’m here! But it turns out that when one arrives at 2AM two days before the race, there’s a bit of racing around to be done to get organized. I am very fortunate, though, to have my very own bike shop, Cyclemetrix, at my homestay (see below) here in Coeur d’Alene. When I was here in 2006, Jim, my homestay dad, pretty much entirely rebuilt my bike two days before the race, and this year he has the Wilier ready to rock as well.
Staying with the Kozak family again is one of the highlights of being back in Coeur d’Alene. They are such an awesome family , with two adorable young triathlete daughters (at ages 7 and 11!). Sierra, who you see above in her dad’s… Read More
23 June 10: Ironman Swim

I’ve been soaking up as much ocean-view as I can before my little trip tomorrow. To answer your questions, YES I will be racing Ironman Coeur d’Alene on Sunday (Follow along with live coverage at www.ironman.com. I believe the professionals will be starting at 6:25AM PST.). However, Coach wanted this one done with “minimal interruption to training,” so I won’t leave Kona til Thursday afternoon.
I am very much looking forward to my fourth visit to Coeur d’Alene; it is such a beautiful place with a cute little town in which everyone seems to get into the race spirit and come out to support the athletes. Coeur d’Alene is one of my favorite events: I raced here as an age grouper in 2003 and as a pro… Read More
21 June 10: Check this out

It is 8PM bedtime here in Kona, so I will keep this brief. Although I am on a mission to try to move my body towards Pacific Standard Time before my last-minute trip to Coeur d’Alene this weekend, I had to stay up five extra minutes to share this article. This interview inspired me today.
It’s an interview with the Ultraman Rich Roll, pictured above, conducted by a dear friend of mine for the website MindBodyGreen. This interview inspired me because since I have been here on the Big Island, I have been doing some Ultraman course reconn. And let me tell you: this race is no joke. This interview inspired me because Rich Roll has done this race–and some other crazy events which you… Read More
20 June 10: Flashback to last Sunday . . .

Yesterday the GCM and I found a cool perspective on last Sunday’s 10-kilometer birthday swim. From just below the Queen K down near Keahou, we had this perspective of the whole course–but we had to divide it into three photos . . .
We started at the Kailua Pier, which is down near where that little peninsula-type thing and the coastline intersect.
Then we swam along this coastline for ten kilometers, passing hotels that all started to look alike, oceanfront homes, and –don’t tell the GCM–probably some sharks too!
We finished in the Keahou Bay, which comes just before the Sheraton, that last big white hotel (there are a lot of these along the way) on the left. Just looking at this view yesterday got me itching… Read More
