29 June 10: Thanks Coeur d´Alene!

Pre-race with Coeur d´Alene super ironman support crew-adopted mom-cheerleader for the pros, Sue Hutter. We love you, Sue!!

I am back in Kona and barely functioning at the moment but wanted to post a quick update since I have received so many messages to which I have not had a chance to respond. Pre-race I only just had time to get ready for the event, so I had lots of catching up with friends to cram into the day afterwards; so at the moment I have had five hours sleep total in the two nights since the race and can hardly string a sentence together.

I just wanted to let everyone know that while Sunday was a long, painful and not-so-pretty day at the office, I am fine. And most importantly, I wanted to thank so many Coeur d´Alene locals, ironman supporters, and athletes for all of the cheers on the race course on Sunday. This was my first ironman in the States this year and there really is nothing like racing in my home country; even stumbling along miles back from the real race, I was overwhelmed by how much support I had out there. Especially to the age group athletes who offered such enthusiastic words, THANK YOU! I often couldn´t respond, but I heard you all and want you to know that you truly inspired me on a very rough day.

I had been fortunate to have two good races in my previous visits to Coeur d`Alene, but I realized during this trip that it is impossible not to have a positive experience in this place. It is just too beautiful, and the way its people embrace the event is something very special. Just chilling out with my homestay family, the Kozaks, is a treat. I felt like my visit with them was much too short.

And how could I not smile when I returned home from the race to find this in the driveway?!

Little Sierra and Kestrelle even made me my own special trophy; what more could a girl ask for?!

THANK YOU Coeur d´Alene and especially to the Kathleen, Jim, Sierra, and Kestrelle Kozak for the hospitality and another incredible race weekend. I´ll be back!

I love your optimism and your spirit, even with a tough day ( if you can call a 10 something a tough day) you still put in an amazing performance in your 3rd ironman in like 5 weeks. Crazy lady.

You are a tough & crazy lady and for that I’m so in love with you!!! When I heard that you were racing I got all excited. Even if you didn’t have a great race you rock in my book. Well done, you are an inspiration!!! I’m in love with this sport and hope that may be some day I can at least do one 1/2. Recover soon!!!!

Good or bad day at the office.. you always stick it out like a champ. That’s a commendable and admirable quality that not all the pros have! Great job!

How you can get your body to perform these exausting events when you cross so many time zones to get to and from meets. Just deciding when it is time to sleep, eat, or just relax, must be a problem. Hopefully you will be able to spend enough training time in Kona that your body can adjust to a sensible schedule. I think that even you might be surprised some mornings to have to look outside to make sure where you are.

You did salvage the swimming leg and that is no small accomplishment when you havent rested.

    Love you, J.w.
